TKC is this area's best kept secret. With regard to karate training and value, this statement could not be more true. Residents of Staten Island have several dozen martial art schools and programs to choose from.
Statistics show that most people choose a martial art program based on two factors:
- How close is it to their home
- They allow their child to join their friend's karate school. Base your child's welfare on the recommendations of another child or parents with standards that may not be reflective of your own values?
These two methods do show that people are looking for convience and rely on others when they have no other information to go by. Missing are other MORE important elements: quality and cost.
TKC is one of the most affordable Staten Island karate programs that is located in a permanent location (NOT in a church basement, garage, recreational center, or thrown together by a health club to attract additional members). All of our programs are all-inclusive - we do not, and will not, "nickle and dime" our people with hidden costs. As far as instruction goes, our two active, internationally ranked and sanctioned instructors represent over 43 years of combined experience in ONE form of karate -- Gojuryu Karatedo. Many programs, especially ones teaching children under age 10, are being taught by Black Belt teenagers or adult fitness personnel wearing Black Belts! The fact that you don't know what are TRUE creditials from "lip service" should be alarming to all parents. Is your child safe? Who is teaching him/her and what are their creditials? What is being taught to them? Are the materials being taught appropriate for your child's age?
Traditional Karate Center has an exceptional teaching staff. Our staff has rank certification AND teacher's certification directly from our headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. We teach a traditional, classic style of
karatedo. We are active with our international headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Our instructors have been coached and taught by some of the most knowledgable, esteemed, Japanese karate masters in the world. Our two senior instructors (and three semi-active instructors) have
ALL been National Championship medalist in BOTH kata (forms) and kumite (fighting). Our students, Staten Island athletes, have garnered over 2,000+ State and Regional Championship medals, 197 National Championship medals, 50 International Championship medals including 1 Pan-American Championship GOLD medal and one BRONZE and 1 World Championship BRONZE medal in only 10 competitive seasons! Our special enhancement programs are preparing our athletes for Olympic-style Karate.
Instruction at TKC is NOT even focused on competition. If your program is 'that good', you can achieve great results in tournament competitions - that is just an additional benefit. TKC offers its students a solid core of classic karate techniques, stretching and conditioning. Earning a Black Belt at TKC is a lofty achievement since it requires a very comprehensive understanding of our curriculum. Dedicated, hard-working students generally need 4 ~ 5 years to be adequately prepared for their Black Belt examination.
